a great deal more than an art break
A Masterclass in Watercolour
Big Sky Art was to host Joseph Zbukvic’s FIRST EVER Residential Painting courses in the UK in 2020 and 2021. Very sadly, Joseph had to cancel both dates as he travels all the way from Melbourne; however at long last his eagerly awaited 5 day workshop took place this Autumn. Needless to say it was a great success, and very much enjoyed by everyone involved.
Born in Croatia, Joseph has been based in Melbourne, Australia and we were extremely fortunate that he included Big Sky Art in one of his infrequent European tours.
Joseph needs no introduction to watercolour artists the world over – highly regarded as a leading master in this medium, he is one of the most renowned artists of our time, and his workshops are quite simply legendary. His impressive achievements and enormous success are due to his ability to transform any subject into visual poetic language.
Covering an infinite variety of subjects, Joseph’s sensitive, lyrical and atmospheric paintings have captivated private collectors and galleries from all around the world. In his own words: " I try to achieve a balance of harmony between tonal values, design, colour and mood that will visually evoke the emotions between the viewer and the painting. Watercolour, with its subtle and gentle effects is a perfect medium to achieve this."
Joseph’s teaching style is mesmeric, and his easy manner and sense of humour disguise a wonderful and inspiring teacher. A strong believer in the benefits of working ‘en plein air’, he is looking forward to painting in the stunning and varied locations in the vicinity of The White House. Rural landscapes and seascapes, coastal villages and Georgian architecture abound in this region. In the event of bad weather, his workshops will take place in our large, airy and well equipped studio.
